Home to North America’s largest cross-country resort and 11 other options to fuel your cross-country skiing adventure, North Lake Tahoe makes it easy to get Nordic this winter. From basket weaving with pine needles to silk and oil painting, the scenery around the Lake Tahoe region is an inspiration to artists. Though we’re huge fans of all that Truckee has to offer, our favorite spot in this nostalgic town happens to be Jax’s at the Tracks. Featured on Food Network’s “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives,” Jax’s has been winning over the hearts of famous foodies and Lake Tahoe locals alike since it first opened its doors in 1995. There’s not a breakfast item at Jax’s we don’t love, but our favorites happen to be the Crab Cake Benedict and the All-Day Addiction (which is essentially a hearty classic breakfast served atop fresh greens with a balsamic and pesto drizzle). If your schedule doesn't allow for an entire day-trip to Truckee, we definitely recommend making the short drive there for a hearty breakfast at Jax's early in the morning before heading back to Tahoe to hit the slopes.
Spend a romantic winter evening with that special someone, meet up with a group of friends, or pick up something to go and dine next to the fire in your room. No matter what you’re craving, it’s easy to indulge in local flavors and be wowed by all the delectable bites. While your friends are on the slope eating squashed sandwiches or overpriced food at resort cafes, treat yourself to a fancy lunch! On the North Shore, Lone Eagle Grille is right on the water or in South Lake Tahoe, try the Riva Grill. Order steak, a desert, wine. Look at the water and roll out of there happy & full! There’s no doubt California is home to some of the country’s best ski slopes and Lake Tahoe’s winter wonderland has the largest concentration of ski resorts anywhere in the USA.Fifty Fifty Brewing Company serves up inventive craft brews—pale ales, IPAs, porters, and an imperial stout aged in oak bourbon barrels—plus a hearty array of pub-style burgers, sandwiches, salads, and pizzas. Make your après-ski meet-up a progressive party by hitting a few more Truckee hot spots: Truckee Public House, Old Town Tap, and Moody’s Bistro. A Lake Tahoe tradition, the Tahoe Trout Farm has been open for more than 70 years. Ice Skate (Winter). Tahoe's family-friendly Northstar resort is also home to the area's biggest ice-skating rink..
Thanks @[email protected]_y9HuboMEVp:disqus yes Lake Tahoe is indeed stunning. You’re so lucky to have grown up there!Whether you’re a novice or have little ones in tow who could use a lesson (or two, or three), we’ve got you covered. Plus, each January, several of our resorts participate in “Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month” with beginner-friendly environments and offers.I’ve been to North Lake Tahoe in the fall a few times before, and also once to Squaw Valley, so this was my first time on the Tahoe South properly (mind that day we drove around the entire lake, which is really fun to do in the summer but probably impossible in the winter due to snow!)Kirwood’s cat skiing operation offers skiers the opportunity to seek out fresh powder on the Powder Cat Tour to Martin Point and Red Cliffs. You can stay in the center of The Village at Squaw Valley’s dining and shopping, in a comfy room with easy access to the slopes. Room sizes can accommodate big families and groups if needed, with suites and full kitchens available. In nearby Tahoe City, families love Granlibakken: It started as a sledding hill and ski jump in the 1920s, adding a lodge in the 1940s; today the 74-acre resort has a spa, a wide range of rooms and condo-style lodgings, and its historic warming hut. A little farther north in Truckee, The Ritz-Carlton Lake Tahoe offers sweeping mountain views, ski-in/ski-out access to Northstar California’s slopes, and a sumptuous 17,000-square-foot spa. Diners can watch the culinary magic happen in the open kitchen of Manzanita or sip a cocktail from the frozen ice rail in its earthy, dark-wood bar. In summer, take advantage of Northstar’s mountain-bike park and nearby championship golf courses.
